Taylor Swift & Jake Gyllenhaal Break Up

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal are starting 2011 single.

"They're over," a source tells PEOPLE about the short-lived relationship. "It ended last month."

No reason was given for a split, and the stars reps didn't have immediate comment, but the two spent the holidays – and their birthdays – apart.



Swift, 21, rang in 2011 in Nashville, solo, at a party, while Gyllenhaal, 30, was in New York, where he attended a closing party for Broadway's Fela! on Jan. 2. While in the Big Apple, Gyllenhaal was also spotted dining with his mother at the Spotted Pig.

After spending Thanksgiving weekend together, the two were last seen publicly together on Dec. 9 in Los Angeles.

Gyllenhaal and Swift were first spotted together in October backstage at Saturday Night Live – followed by a brunch in Brooklyn.

Unfortunate news for all you guys who recently started dating a new girl: Jake Gyllenhaal just made you look bad. Although the Love and Other Drugs hunk only began a relationship with Taylor Swift a few weeks ago, the U.K. Sun reports that he dropped $10,000 US for a rare guitar for his sweetie’s 21st birthday.


According to the Sun, Swift spotted the Fender Gretsch (which was signed by country music icon Chet Atkins) while she and Gyllenhaal were wandering through Nashville recently. Gyllenhaal, 29, later managed to sneak away and buy it for her.

“He spent the weekend in Nashville with her and she saw the guitar in a tiny store which a lot of A-list musicians use,” said the Sun’s source. “Taylor drooled over it so Jake went back to the shop later and bought it for her. He was originally going to buy it just as a gift but it ended up being perfect for her birthday.”

Imagine all the songs she’s going to write about him now! What rhymes with “Gyllenhaal”?


As if that weren’t enough, Gyllenhaal also reportedly spent $150,000 US to fly Swift to London last month; the actor was there to promote Love and Other Drugs but allegedly wanted to spend his free time with Swift.

Sorry, guys, it looks like that $20 gift certificate to the Outback Steakhouse wasn’t so thoughtful after all.

Taylor Swift celebrated birthday without Jake G

Taylor Swift celebrated her 21st birthday over the weekend, but many outlets have gotten pretty much everything about it wrong.

According to reports, Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal partied “at Taylor’s Nashville home,” where they were “obsessed” with each other.

Perez Hilton claims there was “no booze” at the soiree, period, but says Swift and Gyllenhaal were “cuddly” all night, asking, “Who needs a martini when you can get intoxicated on GyllenHAWT!”

And who needs facts when you can make up stuff?

Gossip Cop spoke with a partygoer and learned that the combination birthday/Christmas celebration (which Swift holds every year for her team) did NOT occur at her home.

The party DID, however, have cocktails and wine on hand for anyone who wanted to imbibe (although Swift herself did not).

As for Gyllenhaal, who supposedly spent the night all over Swift, Gossip Cop has learned the actor wasn’t even there.

December 09, 2010, (Sawf News) - Jake Gyllenhaal turned the cops on paparazzi trailing him and Taylor Swift in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 9.
LAPD was quick to respond to Gyllenhaal's call with patrol car and reportedly even a helicopter.
Gyllenhaal and Swift were cruising in an Audi Q7 when the incident happened.
According to an x17.com photog trailing the couple Gyllenhaal "didn't want anyone to get a shot of him and Taylor together."

At his Love and Other Drugs press conference on Saturday at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan, Jake Gyllenhaal dodged a question about his relationship with Taylor Swift. And he wasn't alone in that pursuit.

Asked what's going on between the actor and the country star, Gyllenhaal's Love costar Anne Hathaway quickly interjected, mock-shouting at the reporter who inquired (seemingly in order to save her friend).

As an uncomfortable-looking Gyllenhaal kept silent, Hathaway yelled, "Hang on, hang on, I have to say something! I have been Jake's onscreen love interest for years, all right? You keep the conversation to me and only me, otherwise I'm going to get nasty!"



Gyllenhaal simply quipped, "You get Ella Enchanted pissed off ..." (Swift similarly avoided questions about her rumored beau on Ellen DeGeneres last month.)

Meanwhile, if Swift was also in New York City over the weekend, and if the pair did meet up again, they did a good job of keeping it under wraps. She was in Nashville Sunday to rehearse for the CMA Awards.
